Austin Pride Run 2010

06/05/2010 - For the first time, the Austin Gay and Lesbian Pride weekend  included a major running event. This first official LGBT run in Austin has received a fantastic support from the community and the city officials.

Joseph Halverson, Christian Leman and Amy Fletcher from Capital City Front Runners, were the organizers of the Run.

It was a 5K (3.1 miles) that allowed participants to enjoy a run in downtown Austin in a fun environment. Starting from the Long Center, the runners covered two laps of a route that lead them across Lady Bird Lake (Town Lake) up to the 4th street warehouse district.

The race wastimed and results were published but the goal of the race was to welcome everyone and share a good time. A Slip-N-Slide was provided at the end, and a water theme was used throughput the race to keep everyone cool. The race included a costume contest and cool prizes will be awarded; the theme was "Run on the beach!"
