Cap10K

The Cap10K is traditionally the largest race in Austin with close to 24,000+ participants. It is Texas’s largest 10K and the fifth largest in the nation.

Since 2009, a group of Rainbow "superheroes" proudly add some fun into the race. 2011 was special since our super heroes decided to wear Spandex Bodysuit and micmic our logo right in the middle of Congress Avenue!

At 7:30 am on Sunday, we were wearing our body suits, one for each color of the rainbow, and did our best to mimic the personas of our logo right in the middle of the deserted Congress avenue. Newie took great pictures of the group that will stay forever in the pantheon of our Club! You may think they are photoshopped but no, that is just the real magic of a true artist!

Walking down Congress Avenue, a journalist from the YNN TV channel got excited with our outfit and decided to interview the group live for the 8:00 am newscast. Joseph answered her questions (see the interview online at http://ynnaustin.com/content/top_stories/277429/capitol-10-000-keeps-austin-colorful?ap=1&MP4) and offered the most fun/refreshing selling speech for our club. Our coach Rey watched us live, and we hope other people got to see us and got the same excited impression about our Club.

After having rallied all our Front Runners with the support of our highly visible (actual) Rainbow flag, we finally started our race at a very reasonable pace, stopping at every mile marker to take a picture and making sure the group stayed together to keep its meaningful rainbow layout. And with the chilly weather, we were actually happy to wear this full body suit to keep us warm! The Cap10K is a fun race anyway with live bands and a large supporting crowd along the way: our colors were noticed and appreciated!

After finishing this epic race, we all walked to the Hill Country Running Company store to enjoy some well-deserved mimosas and pastries with other Front Runner friends and the cool staff of the store.

That was a fun day, and a huge buzz on Facebook the day after!
