The Austin Front Runners meet each Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and each Saturday at 10:00 a.m. on the
Lady Bird Lake running trail near the stretching area on the north shore
where Stephen F. Austin Dr. passes under the southbound lane of the
MoPac bridge. This is located just across Stephen F. Austin Dr. from Austin
High School.
How To Get To Us Access by car is easiest
from the MoPac (see directions below). Nearby bus routes include the 4
and 22. Consult the Capital
Metro bus schedule for details. Street parking is free and
not hard to find. A large, paved public lot is available on the north
side of Stephen F. Austin Dr. east of the MoPac, at the west end of the
Austin High School parking lot, as well as an unpaved lot directly under
the MoPac bridge just north of the stretching area. Both these public
lots are free. A crosswalk traverses
Stephen F. Austin Dr. just under the MoPac bridge. On the south side,
The Roberta Crenshaw Pedestrian Walkway crosses the lake at street
level. We meet in the area between the crosswalk and the pedestrian
bridge, just east of the stretching area.
MoPac from the north Take the Lake Austin Blvd.
exit just before Lady Bird Lake. At the Lake Austin Blvd. light, you
will see RunTex
to the right, on the southwest corner of the intersection. Drive
straight on the MoPac feeder road, Atlanta St., through the light.
Atlanta St. tees quickly into Stephen F. Austin Dr. The leftmost lane
merges onto the freeway, so stay to the right. The unpaved public lot
is to your left. The stretching area is directly in front of you to the
left. Short Cut - Avoid Austin Traffic - Exit Mopac at 35th street and take a right onto 35th
street. Take a left at the first light onto Exposition. Then take
Exposition all the way until it T's with Lake Austin Blvd. Take a a
left onto Lake Austin Blvd.
MoPac from the south Take the 5th St./Lake Austin
Blvd./Cesar Chavez St. exit just on the north side of Lady Bird Lake.
Get into the far right lane to get onto Cesar Chavez St. Continue in
the far right lane a couple hundred yards, when it will make a sharp
U-turn to the right, as indicated by a sign for northbound Loop 1.
After the U-turn, Austin High School is directly ahead, and the small
street you are on will make a right turn under Cesar Chavez St. Just
before that, make a left turn onto Stephen F. Austin Dr. Follow Stephen
F. Austin Dr. about half a mile to the MoPac bridge and park where you
can.
I-35 from the north Take U.S. 183 west to the
MoPac. Follow the instructions above for MoPac from the north.
I-35 from the south Take Ben White (U.S.
290/Tex. 71) west at exit 230. Travel north on Tex. 360/Capital of
Texas Highway to the northbound MoPac. Follow the instructions above
for MoPac from the south.

A Little Background On
Why We Are Offering A Dues Paying Membership: By offering a dues paying membership we will
have a more stable and consistent financial base to work from, one we
can supplement as needed with community fundraising events. The dues
will allow us to buy banners, make flyers and business cards, maintain
our website, and participate in the Gay Pride Festival and Parade.
Through these actions we hope to grow the club membership. This of
course means more friends, more fun, and a more rewarding Front Runner
experience! As always, our runs are open to everyone and
always free. We welcome and encourage you to join us whether or not you
are a dues paying member. Our hope is that you benefit from all that
AFR has to offer and you too would like to see the club continue to
grow and not rely on ad-hoc, informal, and unpredictable donations.
There are advantages to being an active member and we offer these
incentives as a means to help generate income for the club, and hope you
find them worthwhile. Austin Front Runner Membership Benefits: Your membership with AFR entitles you to the
monthly newsletter, a spot on the email list to stay abreast of club
news and activities, voting rights to help with the vision and direction
of the club, and most importantly it gives you access
to a social network of other like-minded individuals. Renewing members receive a CCRF water bottle, new members get a CCFR shirt. |
